A Golden Era for the Firearms Industry: A Growing Community of Enthusiasts and Newcomers

"Building a Stronger Second Amendment Community, One New Shooter at a Time"

There has never been a better time to be in the firearms industry. Across the country, we are seeing an unprecedented surge in individuals seeking firearms training, eager to improve their proficiency and exercise their Second Amendment rights. From first-time gun owners to seasoned shooters, the enthusiasm for education and responsible ownership is at an all-time high. This trend not only strengthens the gun-owning community but also fuels growth across the entire industry—whether in firearm sales, ammunition, accessories, or training programs.

Recent studies confirm this surge:

  • Surge in Firearm Training Demand: The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) reported training approximately 92,950 students in 2020, nearly doubling the number of certified instructors compared to previous years. This aligns with the 5 million new firearm purchasers that year.
  • Expansion of Shooting Sports Participation: A 2024 report by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) highlighted a 24.1% growth in adult participation in sport shooting from 2009 to 2022, rising from 34 million to over 63.5 million participants.
  • Increased Firearm Safety Training: A study found that 61% of firearm owners in the U.S. had received formal training on firearm safety and use, demonstrating a strong commitment to responsible ownership.

This influx of new shooters is something we should all celebrate. Every new gun owner is another individual embracing self-reliance, safety, and personal responsibility. The more we can welcome these newcomers into our ranks, the stronger and more vibrant our community will become.

We have always been a welcoming and respectful group, and I hope to see that spirit continue. At SHOT Show this year, I had a moment that made me reflect on just how great this community truly is. One night at my hotel, I held the door open for an elderly couple, and they thanked me warmly. They immediately guessed I was there for SHOT Show, saying they could tell by my politeness and willingness to help. That struck me. This kind of courtesy isn’t unique to SHOT Show—it’s something I see at every range, every gun store, and every trade show I attend.

My wife, who wasn’t familiar with this community before we married, has noticed the same thing. She has repeatedly said how much she appreciates the kindness, respect, and camaraderie among gun owners. This industry isn’t just about firearms—it’s about values. It’s about people who believe in responsibility, safety, and looking out for one another.

As we continue to grow, let’s make sure we embrace the new wave of gun owners. Let’s encourage them to seek training, to practice, and to become ambassadors for the Second Amendment. The stronger our community, the more resilient our rights become.

If this trend of training and ownership continues, the future looks bright for every gun store, range, instructor, and manufacturer in the industry. Let’s do our part to keep this momentum going by fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. We truly are a great community, and I am grateful to be part of it.
